Breakfast in Alice’s hidden garden

There are too little weekends, or they are too short, or I’m just too busy. Anyway, I’m lacking weekends when I have time to go at ease to the center and have a nice breakfast. And when I do have time the weather is shitty. So here I am posting about a place, where I went almost a month ago and dreaming about when am I going to do it again. It was that weekend when it felt like summer was here, but sadly that feeling was short-lived and now it actually feels like the summer is already over and it’s autumn, cold, rainy, grey, totally sucky (is that even a word?).  Continue reading “Breakfast in Alice’s hidden garden”

Fancy brunch in Chocolato

How do you like coupons? I love coupons, I am very happy when I can get stuff for free or cheaper as usual. So when I saw a cupon for a “Luxurious brunch in Gent” I had to get it. This luxurious brunch took place in Chocolato. This is a chocolate shop and coffee place, but apart from that they also give different chocolate related (duh!) workshops. I was very excited about it and this time Laurens sacrificed his free time to join me (it didn’t go without his comments though “You do know I’m only doing that for you!?” and the like). But not even Mr. Grinch can ruin my excitement before a brunch. After it, it’s a different story and that day the culprit of my annoyance was extremely strong front wind when cycling home (FYI this is a constant mood breaker in my life). Hot chocolate and breakfast in Huize Colette

Days are passing me by so fast lately, I can’t believe we’re almost mid January. How are your New Year’s resolutions coming along? Do you have any? I normally don’t, but this year I kind of do. I would like to learn better Dutch, pick up with my French, not be an impulsive shopper that much, practice piano more, so that I don’t forget it all and make more time to Skype with friends and family. We’ll see how it will go, but I think universe will have to give me more free time, otherwise things will get a bit complicated. Continue reading “Hot chocolate and breakfast in Huize Colette”

Cosy breakfast in Maaltecorner

I went to great lengths to get to this place. Once, when I was taking the bus to the airport, I spotted a house next to the road, it stood out because of its roof. It’s a thatch roof, not something you see often. It looked super cute and while driving past it I just managed to see a sign in front that said that they serve breakfast. Well you can imagine I needed to put this place on my have-to-try-it-out list. But there was a little problem – I missed the name. Continue reading “Cosy breakfast in Maaltecorner”

Sleepy breakfast in Julie’s house

Julie’s house is one of the most known places in Ghent. It’s a place where you get your cupcake and cake fix and that fix is delicious. So when I heard that you can go and have breakfast at Julie’s I was all up and running (well not literally, because I don’t really run). I was prepared this time and made a reservation, you can call or just fill out a form on their website. I of course filled out a form, because, despite the fact that in person I am almost never shy, I am super uncomfortable with talking to people on the phone. Breakfast at Gust

Those that know me, know how much I love my breakfast. Breakfast is my me time before the day starts, I want to have that 20 min (or longer in the weekend) when I can enjoy in my meal and read my book. I also love to go out for breakfast and brunch. I think I prefer to go out for a good breakfast than for a good dinner. I don’t know why, I think I like the atmosphere in breakfast places more. There are many nice breakfast places in Gent and last Saturday I visited Gust that opened in august.  Continue reading “Breakfast at Gust”

Emperor’s mess

Emperor’s mess, it sounds quite glorious, you would expect some elaborate dish, but it is not. It is, as the second part of the name states, a mess. It’s basically a pancake torn in pieces and then sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with jam or fruit sauce (I like to eat it with Nutella as well). This is one of those things they serve as dessert in schools as it can be quite healthy if you don’t overload it with sugar and everybody likes it. Continue reading “Emperor’s mess”

Greek yogurt pancakes

Monday mornings, nobody likes them. I read a quote somewhere saying that they are like the person that shows up at your party uninvited, you go along with it, but you definitely don’t like it. What I like though are little traditions, they are something you look forward to, little moments you created because they make you feel good, totally the opposite from a Monday morning. A couple of months ago, my boyfriend and I started a new tradition that would make these days a bit more pleasant. Well to be honest, I started it and he just has to accept it. Simon Says coffee house

One of the things you miss when you move to a new city is knowing where to go for a good coffee, or a good cake, or the atmosphere, to relax, meet with friends. When I first went out to a random place to get a cup of coffee here in Belgium it was really not good, planely it sucked. Since then I learned, that you have two extremes – you have places where they only serve a wannabe coffee (very diluted filtered coffee) and then you have places where they take their coffee business to the next level, where you can choose not only the mix and origin of your coffee, but also the preparation method such as espresso, french press, aeropress and V60, whatever you or your wallet fancies.
