Kookeet 2015

Yesterday I went to yet another food festival. They are all tactically organised in September. The summer, and with it bikini season, is over and everybody starts to eat a bit more again. This one was called Kookeet, which means cook-eat in Dutch, and was organized for the fifth time this year. It was an event where 30 top chefs from Bruges presented their creations to the general public for, as their website states, democratic prices. Kookeet-13
Včeraj sem bila na še enem kulinaričnem festivalu. Vsi so taktično organizirani septembra. Poletje in z njim obdobje, ko bolj pazimo na svojo linijo, se konča in vsi začnemo spet malo več jesti. Ta se je glasil Kookeet, kar pomeni kuhaj-jej v Nizizemščini in se je odvijal že peto leto zapored. To je bil dogodek, kjer je 30 vrhunskih kuharjev iz Brugge-a predstavilo svoje kreacije splošni publiki po, kot je napisano na njihovi spletni strani, demokratičnih cenah.

The festival was organized in the square of Bruges central train station, so it was very easily accessible. The entrance to the festival was free of charge. On the festival you could only pay with pre-bought tokens. One token was 2 euros and the dishes were 4, 6 or 8 euros (so 2, 3 or 4 tokens). The only thing I didn’t like about this arrangement is that you could only buy per 5 tokens, so if you wanted to try only one dish, you had leftover tokens and if you wanted to try two dishes that cost 3 tokens, you had to buy 10 tokens and again had too much of them.

Festival je bil organiziran na trgu pred glavno železniško postajo v Brugge-u, tako da je bil zlahka dostopen. Vstopnine ni bilo. Na samem festivalu si lahko plačeval le z žetoni. En žeton je bil dva evra in cene jedi so se gibale med 4 in 8 evri (torej 2, 3 ali 4 žetone). Kar mi ni bilo všeč pri nakupu žetonov je bilo, da si jih lahko kupil le po 5. Se pravi, če si želel poskusiti le eno jed, si imel žetone v presežku, če si želel poskusiti 2 jedi po 3 žetone, si jih moral kupiti 10 in tako naprej.

The weather was perfect this time (not like 2 weeks ago in Brussels), it was sunny and quite warm. People could sit out in the open and enjoy in the sun with some good food and drink. There was a lot to choose from and I again had trouble deciding. I tried 3 dishes. My first choice was a plate with 4 different appetizers from D’s Deldycke traiteurs: baby potato with salmon caviar and Isigny-cram, scallop millefeuille & Lomo Iberico (dried cured pork loin), a sandwich with gingerbread from Bruges with foie gras, honey and sesame and a beefwrap with arugula and horseradish. I quite liked it, appart from the thing with foie gras – I don’t like foie gras and when I was reading the menu I didn’t know that ganzenlever (in Dutch) means foie gras (my bad).

Vreme je bilo tokrat lepo (ne kot 2 tedna nazaj v Bruslju), bilo je sončno in dokaj toplo. Obiskovalci so lahko sedeli na odprtem in uživali v sončnih žarkih ob dobri hrani in pijači. Na izbiro je bilo veliko stvari in spet sem imela probleme pri odločanju. Pokusila sem 3 jedi. Prva izbira je bil izbor 4 predjedi restavracije D’s Deldycke traiteurs: mlad krompir z lososovim kaviarjem in Isigny-smetano, millefeuille iz pokrovače in Lomo Iberico (dimljena svinjska ribica), sendvič iz Brugge-škega medenjaka s foie gras, medom in sezamovimi semeni ter goveji zavitek z rukolo in hrenom. Bilo je kar dobro, le zadevica s foie gras-om mi ni bila všeč – ne maram foie gras-a, res mi je ogaben, ampak ko sem brala meni, nisem vedela da ganzenlever (v Nizozemščini) pomeni foie gras (moja napaka).

My second try was a dish from Rock-Fort called Rock-Lobster. It was a lobster with light shellfish bearnaise sauce and mashed potato and I don’t know what those black things are. It looks kind of weird, but it was really good, I was glad with this one (no foie gras here).

Moja druga izbira je bila jed restavracije Rock-Fort z imenom Rock-Lobster. Jastog z lahko bearnaise omako s školjkami in pire krompir, ne vem pa kaj so tiste črne zadeve. Ne izgleda prav lepo, je pa bilo zelo dobro, s to izbiro sem bila prav zadovoljna (brez foie gras-a tukaj).

At the end I needed my sweet fix. And there was a perfect place to get one. The chocolate line had a hospital theme and their dessert called “A kiss from the night nurse” looked intriguing. It had a red fruit mousse cross, a white cross with nuts and honey, lemon ice cream with chocolate syringe and red fruit sauce. Oh and it had cotton candy also. I really liked it, even though lemon ice cream is not my favourite (I secretly hoped that the white thing would be vanilla ice cream or white chocolate mousse).

Na koncu sem potrebovala svoj sladkorni fiks. In našla sem perfektno mesto, kjer sem ga dobila. The chocolate line je bila odeta v bolnišnično opravo in kot zdravilo ponujala sladico z imenom “Poljub nočne sestre”. Sestavljali so jo mousse iz rdečega sadja kot rdeči križ, beli križ je vseboval oreščke in med, limonin sladoled s čokoladno injekcijo na sredini in sirup iz rdečega sadja. O in sladkorna pena. Odlično je bilo, kljub temu da limonin sladoled ni med mojimi najljubšimi (potihem sem upala, da je tista bela zadeva vanilijev sladoled ali mousse iz bele čokolade).

There were also several cooking demonstration and interviews that you could attend. They were all in Dutch, so it was not really for foreigners. Overal it was a nice event, not too big that you would get lost in it, but big enough to spend a nice couple of hours and enjoy the athmosphere.

Udeležil si se lahko tudi številnih kuharskih demonstracij in intervijujev. Vse je bilo v Nizozemščini, tako da ni bilo za tujce. Na splošno je bil prijeten festival, ne prevelik, da si se izgubil v dogajanju, a dovolj velik, da si lahko zapravil nekaj uric in užival v vzdušju.
