Potica with four fillings

Holiday season is almost here and it’s time to start thinking what to put on the table for all the parties and festive dinners that are coming up. In Slovenia, no holiday passes without potica (pronounced potitsa), it’s a sweet bread roll with different fillings, but most commonly walnut one. I like the walnut filling (and you can find the recipe for that one here), but I get quickly bored of the “same old, same old”. So I decided to make it a bit more interesting and by interesting I mean pimping it up with 4 different fillings. Continue reading “Potica with four fillings”

Potica with walnuts and pecans

Easter is here. I always liked this holiday. Easter brings along all the good stuff – coloured eggs, enormous amounts of chocolate and other goodies, that appear on our tables only in festive times. But apart from that, I like Easter because it announces that spring is here which brings along longer days and warmer, sunnier weather. I don’t really do anything special on Easter, other than visiting family, but despite that I always make sure I colour the eggs and make potica.  Continue reading “Potica with walnuts and pecans”

Baked whole wheat chocolate donut bites

It’s less than a week from Carnival or Mardi Gras or however you call it and it’s time to make something appropriate for the occasion. Since this year Mardi Gras comes just on my birthday and I want my birthday to be filled with cake and not donuts (or maybe I should consider a donut cake), I decided I’ll indulge in donuts a week before. It doesn’t make a difference for me, since here in Belgium Mardi Gras is not so big as it is in some other countries. I do miss it sometimes, I like to dress up and overeat with donuts.  Continue reading “Baked whole wheat chocolate donut bites”

Raisin bread devils for Saint Nicolas

It’s finally here, Saint Nicolas’ day. I don’t know about your place, but here children get presents on the 6th of December. In Slovenia we put a plate the evening before and in the morning there are presents, some fruit and nuts and of course candy. St. Nicolas comes with angels and devils and if you’re not a good girl/boy, you get coal instead of presents and a willow branch, as a warning (it’s meant for spanking).
